Because data processing may differ per context, we explain below per situation which data is processed and why.
When you visit our website or web environments, we may process personal data to keep the website functioning properly, analyse usage and evaluate marketing activities. This may include visited pages and interactions, technical information about browser and device, and global location data such as country or region. We use cookies and similar techniques for these purposes. More information can be found in our cookie statement.
You can use the SousChef® app and web module without creating an account. On first launch the app then creates an anonymous user: a random number, without a name or email address. Under that number we store what you set and save in the app, so the app works and you lose nothing:
If you do nothing in the app for 60 days, we automatically delete the anonymous user, with everything stored under it.
In addition we process pseudonymous usage data to improve the service and keep it technically functioning: which features and sections are used, moments and duration of use, app and platform information such as app version and operating system, and global location at city, region or country level. IP addresses are not stored separately or made visible in our analytics systems. If you later sign in with an account, your data moves to your account and we link the usage data of that installation to your account (see sections 6 and 14).
You can create an account in the app with your email address, your Apple ID or your Google account. With an account we store your data, so you see the same thing on all your devices and lose nothing when you reinstall the app.

Your allergies are health data. We use them to pick recipes you can eat. If a recipe has a variant without your allergens, we show that one. Otherwise we hide the recipe in lists and warn you on the recipe page. You can change or remove your allergies in the app at any time.
When you subscribe to our newsletter, we process your email address to keep you informed of news and developments around SousChef®. Subscription takes place via a form on our website and is confirmed via double opt-in.
If you have an account with a confirmed email address and give consent for email in the app, we also send you emails that fit how you use the app, such as a tip after your first cook. You can change this consent in your message settings. If you use the app without an account, we do not send you email from the app.
We use an external email service provider, Brevo. You can unsubscribe at any time via the unsubscribe link in our emails.
The SousChef® app may send push notifications. This only happens after you have explicitly given permission through your device settings (Android or Apple). To send you push notifications we store a push code for your device and your time zone, so a message reaches you at a normal hour. Messages go through Expo to Apple's or Google's push service. You can withdraw your permission for push notifications at any time in the app or via your device settings.
In the future, SousChef® may offer features allowing users to give commands or ask questions via voice, for example while cooking. This may involve temporarily processing spoken input, possibly via cloud-based services. This processing takes place exclusively within the app or web module and will be set up transparently. When this feature becomes available, we will update this privacy statement accordingly.
When you apply for a position at SousChef®, we process personal data you provide to us, for example via email, a form, external platforms or through a recruiter. We use this data solely for the assessment of your application and delete it when it is no longer needed.
From business relations, partners, advertisers and other professional contacts we may process contact details such as name, role, company name, email address and phone number, and information about agreements made. We use this data for relationship management, communication and carrying out business agreements.
Phone calls are not recorded. Online meetings may in some cases be supported by AI features, such as automatic transcription. This does not happen without being visible or known to participants.
We only process personal data when there is a legal basis for it under the GDPR. Per purpose:
Where we rely on our legitimate interest, you can object to it (see section 17).
To deliver our services we use external parties such as hosting providers, analytics services, email service providers, push notification providers and possibly AI feature providers. These parties process personal data solely on our behalf and according to our instructions. Where required, we enter into data processing agreements. We do not share personal data with third parties for their own purposes, unless legally required to do so.
These parties process data for us:
If you order ingredients through the buttons for a supermarket, a link from Food Influencers United takes you to that supermarket's web shop. We only send the recipe's ingredients for this, no data about you. On those websites the privacy policy of those parties applies.
Where possible, we choose parties that store data in the EU: Supabase, Mixpanel and Sentry keep our data in the EU, and Brevo is a European company. Expo, Google and Apple are American companies. For push notifications, the Firebase measurement and signing in with Apple or Google, data may therefore be processed in the United States. This happens on the basis of the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
We do not retain personal data longer than necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. Data is deleted or anonymised as soon as it is no longer needed.
If you use the app without an account and do nothing for 60 days, we automatically delete the anonymous user, with everything stored under it.
Data that belongs to your account is kept as long as your account exists. If you do not use your account for 24 months, we delete it with everything that belongs to it. 30 days before that we send you an email: if you sign in then, your account stays. Your cooking pace is calculated from cooking sessions of the last 180 days.
If you delete your account, or we delete it after 24 months without use, we erase this data immediately. It then remains in our backups for at most 7 days, after which it disappears automatically.
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Access to systems is limited to authorised staff and secured with, among other things, two-factor authentication.
You have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, to restrict its processing and to receive your data in a portable form (data portability). You can object to processing based on our legitimate interest, and always to messages we tailor to how you use the app. If you have given consent, you can withdraw it at any time; what we did with your data before then remains lawful.
You can exercise your rights by contacting us at privacy@souschef.app. We respond within one month.
You can delete your account and everything that belongs to it yourself, in the app on your profile page with “Delete account”. We then immediately erase your account, cookbook, week plan, shopping list, preferences, cooking pace and cooking history, remove your email address from our list at Brevo and erase your profile at Mixpanel. If that does not work in the app, see souschef.app/en/delete-account.html or email privacy@souschef.app.
Your usage statistics then remain in Mixpanel under your account's number, without a profile, email address or other attributes. Because your account no longer exists, they can no longer be traced back to you.
If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) at autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.
We may update this privacy statement from time to time. The most current version is always available on our website.
