Cookiestatement
Introduction
SousChef uses online technologies, such as cookies and scripts, to enhance the user experience of our websites and apps and make our products and services as engaging as possible. Hereafter, we will refer to these technologies simply as “cookies.” We believe it is important for you to understand exactly which cookies we use on our websites and apps, why we use them, who we collaborate with, and how you can manage your cookie preferences. All this information can be found in this cookie statement.
On which websites and apps is this cookie statement applicable?
This cookie statement applies to the websites and apps for which you have given consent or set your cookies. For an overview of these websites and apps, click here. For more information about your consent or cookie settings, see “Which websites and apps does my consent or cookie setting apply to?”.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer, smartphone, or tablet. These text files contain certain information that tells us more about you, your usage of our websites and apps, or your preferences and interests. What we are allowed to do with this information is determined by you through your cookie settings.
Where does SousChef use cookies?
At SousChef, we use cookies on all our websites and in all our apps. It may also occur that we collect information via cookies on websites or in apps that are not part of SousChef (for example, an advertiser’s website). The placement and use of cookies on those websites or in those apps is governed by the cookie statement of the respective website or app. Information that SousChef receives through this means is handled according to the principles explained in this cookie statement, always respecting your preferences.
Which websites and apps does my consent or cookie setting apply to?
SousChef uses a so-called cross-domain consent for some of its websites and apps. This means that your consent or cookie setting automatically applies to the websites and apps that fall under the cross-domain consent, so you won’t need to give your consent again or provide your cookie settings for those websites and apps. Please note, your choice applies per device. If you have multiple devices, you will need to provide your choice separately for each device. These are the websites and apps to which the cross-domain consent applies:
- www.souschef.app
- www.souschef.cafe
- The Android app of SousChef.
- The iOS app of SousChef
Why does SousChef use cookies?
There are different types of cookies, each used for a specific purpose or functionality. Specifically, the websites and apps of SousChef use cookies for the following purposes:
- To make our websites and apps function (“functional cookies”);
- To map the general use of our websites and apps (“statistical cookies”);
- To personalize our websites and apps (“personalization cookies”);
- To promote and improve our own services and products (“marketing cookies”);
- To integrate with social media platforms (“social media cookies”);
- To deliver personalized advertisements (“advertisement cookies”).
Below you can find more detailed information for each purpose.
Functional cookies
Functional cookies are used to make the websites or apps work. These cookies are necessary for the proper functioning of the websites and apps. Therefore, you cannot refuse or disable them. For example, these cookies are used to:
- Transmit information from one page to the next, for example, when filling out a long survey or entering a lot of data for an online order;
- Storing preferences, such as language, location, desired number of search results, etc.;
- Storing settings for optimal video playback, such as the desired buffer size and the resolution data of your screen;
- Reading your browser settings to display our website optimally on your screen;
- Detecting abuse of our website and services, for example, by recording a series of consecutive failed login attempts;
- Distributing the load evenly across the website to ensure it remains accessible;
- Providing the option to store login credentials so you don’t have to enter them every time;
- Enabling the ability to interact with the website.
Statistical cookies
With statistical cookies, we map the general use of our websites and apps. This is done based on anonymous data. Specifically, we use statistical cookies to determine which parts of the websites or apps are most interesting to users. We do this by measuring how many people visit a website or app and which pages, items, or articles are viewed the most. You cannot refuse or disable statistical cookies. The information we collect in this way is used to create statistics. These statistics give us insight into how often certain web pages or parts of an app are visited and where visitors and users generally spend the most time. This allows us to make the structure, navigation, and content of the website or app as user-friendly as possible. These statistics and other reports cannot be traced back to individual people. We use statistical cookies, for example, for:
- Tracking the number of visitors to our web pages and parts of an app;
- Tracking the duration of time each visitor spends on our web pages and parts of the app;
- Determining the order in which a visitor visits different pages of our website or parts of an app;
- Assessing which parts of our websites and apps need adjustments;
- Optimizing websites and apps.
Personalisation cookies
We use these cookies to map individual browsing and usage behavior on our websites or in our apps and, based on this, personalize the website, app, or our communication with you. When you have an account and are logged in, we link your browsing and usage behavior to your account, allowing us to personalize your experience across all your devices. We also use your raw geolocation to personalize our website and apps based on your estimated location. For example, you may see content that is relevant to the region you are in. The goal of these cookies is to provide each visitor and user with information that is as relevant as possible to them. Therefore, we try to tailor the content of our websites and apps to each visitor or user as much as possible. We do this by recommending interesting recipes, videos, or topics based on what you’ve previously viewed. Our direct marketing communications, such as newsletters and push notifications, are also personalized in this way.
Marketing cookies
We use these cookies to leverage your browsing behavior on our websites and in our apps for our own marketing purposes. Thanks to these cookies, you may see ads for our own products and services on other websites and apps. This category also includes cookies used to improve our websites, apps, products, and services (for example, cookies that collect feedback from users or cookies that track where users drop off in a registration process).
Sociale media cookies
When we integrate social media content into our websites or apps, these parties place cookies to learn more about your browsing behavior. Additionally, you can share the articles and videos you view on our websites or in apps through buttons via social media. The functioning of these buttons relies on cookies from the involved social media networks, allowing them to recognize you when you wish to share content. If you do not allow these cookies, we will not display this content. More information about this can be found in the privacy and cookie statements of these parties.
Advertising cookies
To keep things interesting for you, we use cookies that allow us to show you ads tailored to your profile. This profile is built based on your specific situation and interests. These ads are an essential source of revenue for us, which helps fund our websites and apps. Specifically, we use your click, browsing, and usage behavior to form an understanding of your likely interests. Based on these interests, you may be included in specific segments, such as “male, age range 30 to 45, household of 4, interested in vegan recipes.” You will then see different ads than those in the segment “female, age range 20 to 30, household of 1, interested in Keto.” This may involve linking data across different devices. When you create an account on our websites or apps, we may also use, for example, your place of residence and age to categorize you appropriately. If you give your consent, we may also use your raw geolocation. Furthermore, advertisement cookies are also used to:
- Measure the performance of ads (for example, how many times an ad has been clicked);
- Determine how often you see an ad (this helps prevent you from seeing the same ad repeatedly);
- Conduct market research to learn more about the audience that visits websites and apps and views ads;
- Improve user experience, software, and systems.
Which cookies are placed on my device?
For an overview of all cookies that SousChef may place on its websites and apps, the domains where these cookies are placed, and the retention period of these cookies on your device, visit https://souschef.app/cookielijst/. This overview includes all cookies used by SousChef across all its websites and apps. However, this does not mean that all cookies are placed on every website and app. Only a portion of these cookies will be placed on the specific website or app of SousChef that you visit. Due to how the internet, websites, and apps work, we may not always have insight into the cookies placed by third parties via our websites or apps. This is especially true if our web pages or apps contain so-called embedded elements: these are texts, documents, images, or videos stored by another party but displayed on, in, or through our websites or apps. If you come across cookies on websites or apps that fall into this category and are not mentioned in the overview, please let us know. Alternatively, you can contact the third party directly and inquire about which cookies they place, the purpose of these cookies, the cookie’s lifespan, and how they ensure your privacy.
How can I set my cookie preferences?
When you visit a SousChef website for the first time or use an app for the first time, you must specify through the settings screen which purposes you allow our websites or apps to place cookies for. You can make a different choice for each device. For example, if you wish to accept all cookies on your computer but only limited cookies on your tablet, we will take that into account. If you want to adjust your choice later, that’s not a problem. On our websites, you can always reset your preferences by clicking on “cookie settings” in the footer at the bottom of the page. In the apps, you also have the option to reset your preferences. You can do this by going to “privacy” in your profile. In most popular browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Edge, and Safari, you can adjust the settings to determine which cookies you want to allow on your computer or device.
Why can’t I refuse all cookies?
Functional cookies will always be placed because they are necessary for the website to function. Statistical cookies are also always loaded because the data we collect with them is not personally identifiable. All other cookies can be refused. However, even if you choose minimal cookies, you will still see ads. In this case, these ads will be context-based (based on the content of the page) and not tailored to your interests. As a result, you may also see the same ads more frequently.
How can I manually delete or disable cookies?
You can choose to delete all cookies that are already stored on your computer in any browser. Keep in mind that you need to adjust these settings separately for each browser on each device you use. If you choose to allow no cookies at all in your browser, including functional cookies, it may negatively impact the functionality of our websites.
Does SousChef collaborate with third parties?
Yes, in addition to our own cookies set by SousChef, third parties (our partners) also place cookies on our websites and apps. This is why there are two types of cookies: First-party cookies: These are cookies set by the SousChef domain itself. Only SousChef has access to the information stored in the cookie. Third-party cookies: These are cookies set by a third party, not by SousChef itself. The third party that sets the cookie has access to the data collected by that particular cookie.
Collaboration with advertising partners
We allow our advertisers to track statistics about the effectiveness of their campaigns on our websites and apps through cookies, for example, to measure how often their ads are clicked. Additionally, we collaborate with specialized advertising networks and media agencies, who act as intermediaries between advertisers and website and app administrators (such as SousChef). These parties place cookies on our websites and in our apps to serve ads, which they can do based on information they have previously collected about you on other sites or in other apps.
Why do our advertising partners use cookies?
Our advertising partners (“suppliers”) use cookies. Below, we explain what they can do with them. We also specify what is not allowed. To ensure security, prevent fraud, and detect errors, suppliers can use cookies to:
- Ensure that data is transmitted securely;
- Detect and prevent malicious, fraudulent, invalid, or illegal activities;
- Ensure the correct and efficient operation of systems and processes, including monitoring and improving the performance of systems and processes involved in permitted purposes;
- Suppliers may not perform data processing activities that are permitted under this purpose for another purpose.
- Note: Data collected and used to ensure proper security, prevent fraud, and detect errors may include automatically sent device characteristics for identification, precise geolocation data, and data obtained by actively scanning device features for identification without separate disclosure and/or opt-in.
To provide information and respond to technical requests, suppliers can use cookies to:
- Use a user’s IP address to deliver an advertisement via the internet;
- Respond to a user’s interaction with an ad by directing the user to a landing page;
- Use a user’s IP address to deliver content via the internet;
- Respond to a user’s interaction with the content by directing the user to a landing page;
- Use information about the device type and capabilities to deliver advertisements or content, for example, to offer the correct size of the ad, creative, or video file in a format supported by the device.
Suppliers may not perform data processing activities permitted under this purpose for another purpose. To deliver personalized advertisements, suppliers use these cookies to:
- Select personalized advertisements by choosing ads based on a user profile or other historical user data, including previous activities, interests, visits to websites or apps, location, or demographic information of a user.
- Select basic advertisements, where they can:
- Use real-time information about the context in which the ad is displayed to show advertisements, including information about the content and the device, such as: device type and capabilities, platform information (“user agent”), URL, and IP address;
- Use a user’s imprecise geolocation data (imprecise means an approximate location where a radius of at least 500 meters is allowed);
- Determine the frequency of the ads shown to a user;
- Determine the order in which ads are shown to a user;
- Prevent an ad from being displayed in an unsuitable editorial (brand-unsafe) context.
- Suppliers may not create a personalized advertising profile using this information for the selection of future ads without a separate legal basis for creating a personalized advertising profile.
- Create a personalized advertising profile by collecting information about a user, including activities, interests, demographic information, or the user’s location, in order to create or update a user profile for use in personalized ads.
- Measure the performance of ads, where they can:
- Measure whether and how ads were delivered to and interacted with by a user;
- Provide reporting on ads, including their effectiveness and performance;
- Provide reporting on users who interacted with ads using data observed during the user’s interaction with that ad;
- Provide reporting to advertisers on the ads displayed on their property;
- Measure whether an ad is displayed in an appropriate editorial environment (brand-safe) context;
- Determine the percentage of the ad that had the chance to be seen and the duration of that opportunity.
- Suppliers may not apply panel-based or similar derived audience data to advertising measurement data for market research purposes to gain insights into the audience without a separate legal basis.
- Apply market research to generate insights into the audience, where they can:
- Provide aggregated reporting to advertisers or their representatives about the audience reached by their ads, through panel-based and similarly derived insights;
- Provide aggregated reporting to advertisers about the audience reached or who interacted with content and/or ads on their property by applying panel-based and similarly derived insights;
- Associate offline data with an online user for market research purposes to generate insights into the audience, if suppliers have declared that data sources are being matched and combined.
- Suppliers may not measure the performance and effectiveness of ads shown to a specific user or interacted with by that user to measure ad performance without a separate legal basis.
- Suppliers may not measure which content a specific user has been provided with and how they interacted with it to measure content performance without a separate legal basis.
- Develop new products and improve products, where they can:
- Use information to improve their existing products with new features and to develop new products;
- Create new models and algorithms through machine learning.
- Suppliers may not perform data processing activities that are permitted under this purpose for another purpose.
To link different devices, SousChef and certain advertising partners may link your various devices. For example, your browsing and usage behavior on your smartphone may be used to show personalized ads on your tablet and computer. Suppliers can:
- Deterministically determine that two or more devices belong to the same user or household;
- Probabilistically determine that two or more devices belong to the same user or household;
- Scan active device characteristics for identification for probabilistic identification if users have enabled suppliers to actively scan device characteristics for identification.
To receive and use automatically transmitted device characteristics for identification. Certain advertising partners may receive and use automatically transmitted device characteristics for identification. Suppliers can:
- Create an identifier using data automatically collected from a device for specific characteristics, such as IP address, platform information string.
- Use such an identifier to attempt to re-identify a device.
- Suppliers may not create an identifier using data collected through actively scanning a device for specific characteristics, such as installed fonts or screen resolution, without the separate opt-in from users regarding the active scanning of device characteristics for identification.
- Leveranciers kunnen niet een dergelijke identificator gebruiken om een apparaat opnieuw te identificeren.
To match and combine offline data, some advertising partners may also match and combine offline data, but only if they have a legal basis for doing so. Suppliers can combine offline data with online collected data to support one or more purposes or special purposes. To determine and use your precise geolocation, suppliers may use your precise geolocation data only if you choose to allow it. In this context, suppliers can collect and process precise geolocation data to support one or more purposes. For clarification, precise geolocation means there are no limitations on the accuracy of a user’s location; this can be accurate within several meters. Please note, certain uses of this data for security or fraud prevention purposes are separately covered and do not require separate user opt-in for the use of precise geolocation data.
Cookies, data protection, and your rights
The information stored in cookies may, in certain cases, contain personal data as defined by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The GDPR requires us to have a legal basis for processing your personal data. For functional cookies, SousChef bases this on its legitimate interest in providing visitors and users with an optimal and secure website, app, or service. The same applies to statistical cookies, where SousChef’s legitimate interest is to collect anonymized statistical data about the use of its websites and apps. For all other cookies that may contain personal data, SousChef bases the processing of your data on your consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time. In addition to the right to withdraw your consent at any time, as a consumer, you have several other rights under the GDPR that you can exercise against SousChef. For more information about these rights and how to exercise them, you can refer to our privacy statement. We also process personal data in accordance with our privacy statement, which should be read in conjunction with this cookie statement. Information about the processing of personal data that is not collected via cookies can also be found in our privacy statement.

When we publish changes to the cookie statement, we will update the “publication date” at the top of this page. You will always find the most recent version here. When our cookie statement changes significantly, you will be asked to set your preferences again during your next visit to the website or use of the app.
